Tuesday’s news from the commercial aerospace side of the Farnborough Air Show was steady rather than flashy. With a couple of exceptions on the engine side of the market, we are not seeing a long list of mega deals like we often saw in the past, when Airbus and Boeing would announce orders and commitments for hundreds of aircraft each day. For a change, activity on the defense aerospace market is front and center.  Forecast International’s blog on the defense industry, Defense and Security Monitor, is covering that side of the show.

Aviation Lessor AerCap, the leasing industry’s biggest customer for the Boeing 787, placed a new order for 15 787-9 Dreamliner jets, taking AerCap’s 787 portfolio to approximately 140 aircraft. The deal includes substitution rights that allow Aercap to switch to the larger 787-10 model in the future.

Luxair, the national airline of Luxembourg, converted two options for the Boeing 737-10 into firm orders and secured options for two additional 737-10 aircraft. Including prior firm orders, Luxair’s 737 fleet will include twelve aircraft: eight Boeing 737-8s and four Boeing 737-10s.

Uganda Airlines, the country’s national carrier, is ordering four 737-8 narrowbodies and four 787-9 widebody aircraft to grow and modernize its fleet. The new order is the airline’s first purchase of Boeing aircraft.

Shohin Airlines, a private airline in Tajikistan, disclosed at Farnborough that it had ordered four Airbus A320neo family aircraft earlier in the year.  A purchase agreement covering two A320neo and two A321neo aircraft was included in Airbus’ end of June order book but did not identify the customer.

Philippine Airlines has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) covering nine Airbus A350-1000 widebody aircraft.  The agreement follows an announcement yesterday at the Farnborough Air Show that the airline had committed to order up to 20 Boeing 787-10 widebodies.

AIP Capital and Bridgepoint Group announced an agreement to purchase 11 CFM International LEAP-1B spare engines to support operators of Boeing 737 MAX family aircraft.

Airbus plans to test high-span wings that could appear on its next single-aisle aircraft under its Wing of Tomorrow technology research program. Over the next three years, Airbus will flight test full-scale wing extensions on an A321neo test aircraft to evaluate how the different wing geometries perform in real flight conditions.

IndiGo, India’s largest airline, announced at Farnborough that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with CFM International for a potential order of more than 1,000 LEAP-1A engines to power 510 Airbus A320neo family aircraft on order by the airline. If finalized, this will be the largest single order ever placed for LEAP engines and a record for CFM International.

Abra Group, the corporate parent of airlines Avianca, Gol, and Wamos Air, will acquire 20 Embraer E195-E2 regional jets. Abra will also acquire 10 purchase options and 15 purchase rights, taking the total number of potential aircraft under the deal to 45. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2027. Embraer also announced new agreements with Azorra covering the conversion of up to 30 E-Jets into freighters and with Luxair for the conversion of existing purchase rights for three E190-E2 aircraft plus the addition of a single purchase right.

Binter has also ordered five more E195-E2 jets, while Japan’s Fuji Dream Airlines has ordered two E175 regional jets configured in a single-class, 84-seat layout. Fuji Dream currently operates a fleet of 15 Embraer aircraft, including two E170s and 13 E175s.
