On January 16th, Chinese UAM startup EHang announced that successful conclusion of the inaugural pilotless demonstration flight of its flagship EH216-S eVTOL platform in concert with the Shanghai-based launch customer Hynfar Aviation. The flight was conducted from facilities at Shanghai’s Longhua Airport, which EHANG and other actors are developing as a foundational locus point for future UAM activity in the Shanghai area.

The milestone  demonstration tops off a flurry of other announcements emanating from EHang over the past month plus as it advances the pace of its march towards commercialization in multiple operational segments and geographic regions across the mainland Chinese market. In late December, EHang penned new partnerships with the China Communications Information & Technology Group (CCIT) and Shandong-based Weihai High-Tech Zone for the joint-development and maturation of commercial eVTOL support and operational infrastructure in relevant areas and with Beijing’s Fangshan District government for the planned establishment of a specialized headquarters for eVTOL search & rescue (SAR) activities.
