Toronto-based Porter Airlines has exercised purchase rights to place firm orders for 25 Embraer E195-E2 jetliners, adding to the carrier’s 50 existing firm orders for the aircraft. Porter intends to use the new E195-E2s to extend service to destinations throughout North America. The deal, valued at $2.1 billion at list price, brings Porter’s E195-E2 orders to 75 firm, with 25 purchase rights outstanding.
Porter, which was the North American launch customer for the E195-E2, has already taken delivery of 24 of the 75 aircraft. The carrier currently deploys them from Eastern Canada, with a focus on Toronto and Ottawa. Porter has also established new services with the E195-E2 at Halifax and Montreal.
Porter is configuring its E195-E2s in a 132-seat, all-economy-class configuration.
Meanwhile, Porter and Montreal-based Air Transat are extending their code-share agreement by establishing a joint venture. Called the Alliance, the joint venture expands services in and between the Americas, Europe, North Africa, Mexico, and the Caribbean, integrating the airlines’ complementary, non-overlapping networks at Toronto Pearson and Montreal Trudeau airports.
This strategy is designed to facilitate the acceleration of the two airlines’ expansion in their respective markets: domestic and transborder short- and medium-haul routes for Porter, and international medium- and long-haul routes for Air Transat. It will also involve collaboration by the carriers on scheduling and route planning. The Alliance is to be gradually implemented throughout 2024.
The Alliance is an evolution of the current codeshare agreement between Air Transat and Porter, which was activated in October 2022. Air Transat serves more than 60 international destinations with a fleet of Airbus and Boeing airliners. Porter flies throughout Canada and the U.S. with a fleet of E195-E2s and De Havilland Canada Dash 8-400s, with destinations in Mexico and the Caribbean also planned.
