Air Baltic, the national airline of Latvia, and Airbus announced a significant fleet expansion with airBaltic exercising options for an additional 10 Airbus A220-300 aircraft. This move strengthens airBaltic’s commitment to the A220 platform and paves the way for a nearly 100-strong fleet by 2030.
With this latest order and exercised options, airBaltic solidifies its position as world’s largest operator of the A220-300 model, currently boasting 48 in service. The airline had already placed orders for a total of 80 aircraft through last July, and the new order takes its total orders for the type to 90 aircraft. Deliveries of the 42 remaining A220-300s are scheduled to begin in 2026.
airBaltic has been a strong proponent of the A220 since becoming its global launch operator in 2016. The airline currently operates a single-type fleet of A220-300s, serving over 130 routes across Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and the Caucasus region. The A220-300 typically seats 120-150 passengers, and airBaltic configures its aircraft in a high capacity layout offering seating for 145 passengers.
